With the future of the Scottish RAF bases hanging in the balance due to further UK MoD cost saving measures, air force base RAF Leuchars has made a move to emphasise its importance as a strategic asset when they kicked off Quick Reaction Alert duty for the Typhoon fleet recently.
Premium AEROTEC's Varel plant has successfully started assembling structural components for the Eurofighter. The first 3/2b Eurofighter fuselage section produced in Varel has been delivered to the Augsburg plant, where the entire fuselage centre section will be assembled in a series of further steps. The assembly work now carried out in Varel was previously done at Aircraft Services Lemwerder (ASL), whose military activities were taken over by Premium AEROTEC on 1 January 2011.
Mission “DAEDALUS 11” which began on the 26th January 2011 and runsuntil the 30th, demands intensive air surveillance and security for the 41st World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. For this important mission the Austrian Typhoons have again been called upon to protect the skies during a high-profile event.
With most companies on Christmas break between Christmas and New Year, it was a welcome surprise to learn that Alenia Aeronautica was busy completing their final aircraft deliveries for the year, exceeding the total planned for 2010. These last deliveries came in the form of five Eurofighter Typhoon jets that were handed over to the Italian customer on one day.
The Eurofighter Typhoon programme, which has delivered 50 aircraft over the past year, celebrates another milestone today as the 250th aircraft is delivered to the customer. IS038 was handed over to the Italian Air Force in a small ceremony at Pratica di Mare base. The 250th aircraft will join 311 squadron as part of their current duties.
