With most companies on Christmas break between Christmas and New Year, it was a welcome surprise to learn that Alenia Aeronautica was busy completing their final aircraft deliveries for the year, exceeding the total planned for 2010. These last deliveries came in the form of five Eurofighter Typhoon jets that were handed over to the Italian customer on one day.
The Eurofighter Typhoon programme, which has delivered 50 aircraft over the past year, celebrates another milestone today as the 250th aircraft is delivered to the customer. IS038 was handed over to the Italian Air Force in a small ceremony at Pratica di Mare base. The 250th aircraft will join 311 squadron as part of their current duties.
Eurofighter Typhoon celebrated operating at an 11th Air Force base this weekend as 6 Squadron settled into their new home at RAF Leuchars in Fife, Scotland. The Squadron landed during the annual air show last weekend and will be the backbone of Britain’s Northern air policing Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) force, replacing the Tornado F3 of 111 Squadron.
In July 2010 the UK Royal Air Force, Spanish Air Force, Italian Air Force and the German Luftwaffe have begun taking delivery of the most advanced Helmet Mounted Symbology System (HMSS) which will form a key component of their Eurofighter Typhoon weapon systems.
