Austrian Air Force’s Eurofighter Typhoon fleet reaches 1,000 flying hours milestone

21st July 2009

The Eurofighter Typhoons in service with the Air Surveillance Wing of Österreichische Luftstreitkräfte, Austria’s Joint Armed Forces Command, have reached the 1,000 flying hours milestone.

The Überwachungsgeschwader has received 12 aircraft to date and delivery of the remaining 3 is planned during the coming months.

The aircraft are based in Zeltweg, an air base close to the Styrian mountains, that also hosts a Eurofighter ASTA simulator and the most modern maintenance facilities to support the aircraft in service.

The Eurofighter Typhoon is the best and most cost effective defence system available in the six nations that have the aircraft in service (Germany, UK, Spain, Italy, Austria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) for the protection of nations’ borders, infrastructures, and to ensure the security of the nations’ airspace.

Enzo Casolini, Eurofighter CEO, said: “We are very pleased that the Austrian Air Surveillance Wing has reached this important milestone. The Typhoon is a defence system that is perfectly suited to the air force requirements for air policing, assuring the best fleet effectiveness available in the fighter aircraft arena”.
