Austria were Eurofighter Typhoon’s first export customer, ordering 15 aircraft plus training, logistics and maintenance. Initially ordering 18 aircraft in 2003, the figure was realigned in 2007 based on the Air Forces changing requirements. Deliveries began in July 2007 and were completed in September 2009.

The Austrian Air Force established the Typhoon surveillance wing in Zeltweg which has been adapted to operate the new aircraft. The wing, known as “Überwachungsgeschwader” have been active in recent air surveillance operations, putting the facilities and aircraft to the test.
Austria belongs firmly to the Eurofighter community of six nations and the Eurofighter Typhoon Programme continues to provide the country with a world leading competitive defence industrial capability required for a strong future European defence technological and industrial base.
