The 15th and last Typhoon for Austria delivered. Italian 4th Stormo reach the 10.000 flying hour target

July 2009

The Italian Air Force 4th Stormo is the first Eurofighter flight unit to obtain a NATO operational evaluation. The Typhoons of the Gioia del Colle Air Base’s 36th Stormo of Italian Air Force started their air policing task over the Albanian air space as requested by NATO. Albania, as a new NATO member lacks any asset able to perform this The Italian Typhoons are the first Eurofighters committed to the air policing task for nations lacking any such capability as requested by NATO. For the first time Luftwaffe’s Eurofighters - Jagdgeschwader 74 Typhoons - has been on detachment to Decimomannu in Sardinia, Italy.

June 2009

The first two Typhoon has been delivered to the Royal Saudi Air Force.
April 2009 Gioia del Colle, Italian Air Force Base, inaugurated the first ASTA (Aircrew Synthetic Training Aids) - full Mission Simulator for the Eurofighter Typhoon.
Italian Air Force achieved its 10,000th flying hour, with the Eurofighter Typhoon in service with the Grosseto and Gioia del Colle based wings .

March 2009

A unique AMRAAM firing trial outside Moron Air Base in Southern Spain was
successfully completed on the 31st March. The objective of the testing was to fire the AMRAAM missile from a Eurofighter Typhoon whilst its radar was in passive mode and thus “invisible” for Electronic Support Measures (ESM) Systems. On the 16th March, the German Air Force achieved its 10,000th flying hour, with the Eurofighter Typhoon from Fighter Wing 74 in Neuburg.

February 2009

The German Airforce took three Eurofighter Typhoons to Aero India 2009, the first time the Luftwaffe have participated in an Air Show in Asia with fighter aircraft.

January 2009

Italian Air Force XII Gruppo at Gioia del Colle starts Quick Reaction Alert Air Defence duties 5 January. Tranche 2 deliveries continue in 2009 with GS032 delivered to Germany on the 12th January and BS043 deliveredto the Uk on the 14th.
